Focusing on the crisis in the labor sector, this webinar analyzes labor rights and economic survival during COVID-19, such as immense job displacements, safety risks for frontline workers, and the quick shift to informal and unstable work during the pandemic. The findings show how minimum wage and gig economy workers were disproportionately affected by economic lockdowns with little to no health coverage and job security. The speakers say that long-term recovery means stepping from the idea of flexible labor under neoliberal policies. Instead they call for creating jobs and stronger protections for workers. They recommend making labor unions stronger, keeping safety rules in workplaces and setting up systems to protect people who lose their jobs.
